What's New in Cinematize 2

Cinematize 2

Cinematize 2 offers many new and improved features over Cinematize 1 to help create your masterpiece easily and quickly! Here are the list of new features and their benefits. View also the version history pages for Macintosh and for Windows to see the latest features as we continue to improve Cinematize 2. Click on any of the pictures below to enlarge.

Selection of clip start and end points down to the frame level

New in Cinematize 2, users can select any points within chapters to be start and end points. This allows extraction of just the right segments you need, saving extraction time and disk space. The segments you select can be as short as a fraction of a second or as long as an entire movie.

Using the time offset stepper, you can jump to the exact frame you want. Now you know exact timings and the length of the clip you are extracting. You can also switch between the start and end point frames very easily.

Advanced audio and video synchronization

Cinematize 2 now does active synchronization of the audio and video using timing information from the DVD. Both tracks will now start at exactly the right time and be exactly the same duration.

In addition, Cinematize 2 now includes its own video decoder, eliminating the need for Apple's QuickTime MPEG-2 component and any of the sync problems resulting from it.

What's more, Cinematize provides decoding options to handle sync problems on difficult DVDs, such as those with poorly encoded MPEG video or variable frame rate video. Our FAQ further explains this.

Video decoding to any QuickTime codec, using Cinematize's own decoder
Cinematize 2 includes its own powerful video decoder, allowing users to decode video and save it into a variety of formats. Get the best quality by choosing "full quality 4:2:2 uncompressed video", or recompress into any of the formats supported by QuickTime.

In addition, since Cinematize 2 has its own video decoder, there is no need to worry about installing and worrying about upgrading the Apple QuickTime MPEG-2 component. Any sync or distortion problems caused by bugs in this component will not affect Cinematize 2.

Powerful control of the video decoding process

Cinematize 2 gives you full control over the video decoding process. You can control everything from the decoding mode, output quality, to frame rate and frame size (aspect ratio) of the output video. Selection of decoding mode is especially useful in dealing with variable frame rate video. Selection of aspect ratio makes sure that you get the frame size you want.

Batch extraction – save multiple chapters as one or multiple clips
New in Cinematize 2, you can choose to save multiple chapters as one clip or as multiple clips. This is especially useful when you want to extract and save each chapter as a separate clip. With this feature, there is no need to repeat the same steps just to save multiple chapters into multiple files.

Improved performance with vector acceleration and multi-threading

Cinematize 2 has been optimized to take advantage of the AltiVec vector processor included in all G4, G5, and higher PowerPC processors. Cinematize 2 has also been optimized to take advantage of SSE2 vector instructions on Intel-based processors. As a result, Cinematize 2 will operate significantly faster on machines with these processors. However, Cinematize 2 will work fine on systems with older processors as well.

In addition, Cinematize 2 is now multithreaded, so that AC-3 audio decoding takes place in the background separate from user events. The result is faster decoding and smoother user interaction during extraction.

Improved user interface

With a new permanent preview screen and time stepper, previewing and locating the segments you want is much easier.

In addition, Cinematize 2 now has tabs that are categorized into 3 easy steps.

  • Step 1: Use the "Segment" tab to select segment you want.
  • Step 2: Use the "Video," "Audio," and "Subtitle" tabs to select extraction options for video, audio, and subtitle.
  • Step 3: Use the "Output" tab to determine output options, and then extract and save!
